What You Need To Know Before You Start

  • Word 2008 supports the new Office Open XML format (.docx) and defaults to saving all files in this format.
  • To Change the default (.docx) format in Word click here
  • This version will look much different from the Word 2004 version, but the tools are all still available.
  • You can customize your toolbar using view>toolbars or use the formatting palate which is similar to the native mac applications.
  • When you Create a New Blank Document there are a variety of features to help students format document elements like coverpages, table of content, headers, footers, and bibliographies.
  • Publishing Layout provides a variety of templates for brochures, flyers, invitations, etc.
  • Creating a New Notebook allows students to organize their work with tabs, record audio notes.
  • Students can drop pictures in any word document format to enhance their work.
